Eighteen years ago when I started teaching at F. Elementary. We had a fabulous art budget, an art teacher and a fantastic variety of art supplies. Fast forward to today and our art department and budget is gone.
It is now up to teachers to fund the supplies needed to bring the arts back into the classroom. With a collection of brushes, paint, paper, collage materials, glue, etc. I can nurture and foster a love of the arts and allow all children to feel successful through a variety of hands-on projects designed to elicit imagination and creativity.
As teachers it is so important that we are giving every child an opportunity to express themselves artistically. Art cannot be wrong or judged and it gives all students a time to shine and feel the reward of individual visual expression.
