My teaching experience has been a classroom kindergarten teacher for 13 years and a classroom first grade teacher for 2 years in inner city schools. I am currently a kindergarten ESL teacher and I have been teaching ESL for three years. My school is a multicultural K-5 school and more than 50% of students receive free lunch. There is tutoring for struggling students in the mornings as well as student interventions throughout the day. My school is making gains in some subject areas on standardized tests, but the students need an extra push meet and exceed state standards in all areas. My students enjoy listening to books, participating in skits, and just have an overall love for learning new things. They are excited and anxious everyday about what they will do and learn. What they lack in language they make up for in hard work and great attitudes. My school is a place where students feel safe, set high expectations, and have opportunities for learning all day.
