The Science of Reading is not new. In fact, there have been decades of research but more and more teachers are realizing that the Balanced Literacy approach is leaving many students behind. One in five students is believed to be on the dyslexic continuum.
The book grant will provide quality professional development about teaching phonics and orthographic mapping, and understanding the unique needs of students on the dyslexic continuum. None of the books selected are available at the public library. These books will be read by me and then donated to our school's professional development library.
