Hi! I teach our state history to eager 6th graders. We start at the ice age and continue all the way to modern day. It is a great building block as the students start to see how their own personal stories each play a part. Some of my students immigrated to Minnesota as settlers 150 years ago, several families have immigrated in the last 10 years, and a few have connections to Native American culture. We investigate each of these stories and how different groups of people affected one another.
One of our main goals of the year is to see multiple perspectives in one event. This will help us better understand each other and the past.
