Our school is a Dual Language Immersion school. The student makeup of my class follows the DLI model of 50% native English speakers and 50% native Spanish speakers, making every student in my class a language leaner. Our classroom is a multicultural setting in which different ways to see the world is the norm. Our school is a Title I school with a high percentage of students in free or reduced lunch. The first grade curriculum is very integrated. Themed by the STEAM disciplines, the Common Core Standards in Spanish and the new English Language Development Standards. This year we are so excited to add the best practice of flexible alternative seating in our classroom.
