Daily, my third graders receive a large amount of instruction while sitting on the floor. Every morning, we have a morning meeting in a circle and receive reading instruction later on, in rows on the floor. Our current arrangement is very crowded and uncomfortable. This rug will make it much more comfortable to receive and participate in our daily instruction. The students will have their own space to sit comfortably and will be able to go between sitting in rows and sitting in a circle. This will enable us to transition much more quickly and effectively between instructional routines. Our morning meetings, literacy, and math instruction will benefit, because comfortable children are more likely to be able to absorb the information being taught and apply it later. In addition, the increased space will enable them to have more positive social interactions.
