Have you ever felt left out; like you just don't belong? Many of my students are English Language Learners and Special Education Students. They are mainstreamed into the classroom, and I often do not have the materials that are needed to make them feel like they are a part of our classroom community either due to the cultural differences of their personal limitations. They are eager to learn and show their creativity in ways that are unique to their learning style. In order for special needs to be met in the classroom, learning sometimes looks different.
I teach in an urban elementary school where there is an 85.3 percent free or reduced price lunch population. Many of these children have never had the opportunity to show what they know because of their learning differences.
