Having a variety of seating choices in the classroom will give students more ownership over their learning and foster a warm, relaxed environment where they can focus and feel comfortable . Being able to have seating on the floor or on a stool in small group at a table helps put students at ease and makes learning more fun.
Using stools at small group tables will provide my 5th graders with more space than their traditional chairs. Space is often quite tight and the stools take care of this issue. The comfy floor seats give another option to students to sit and work using a clipboard. Giving students ownership over choosing their seat aids in creating community and teaching students how to make good choices for themselves.
