Our team of three ESL teachers work with 60 students whose first language is not English. The students range in age from 5 to 11. They represent 13 countries and 10 languages. Some of our students have not received any formal schooling before attending our school coming to us from refugee camps. Our students are full of energy and are eager and excited to learn English in order to communicate with their classmates and fully integrate into the school community.
Our students are from an urban district that serves a diverse population. With school funding cuts we as teachers do our best with what we have. We need the right tools in order to help our students narrow and eventually close the achievement gap.
