Reading is a daily activity in our classroom. Our current library is small and full to capacity, so many of our books are packed away and then rotated throughout the year. A new bookcase will allow us to have all our books out at one time. Students will be able to browse the books and find an author or genre that they would like to read.
We read to learn, we read for information, we read for enjoyment, we READ! Currently students sit in their desks or on the hard floor when they are reading; this doesn't foster a love of reading. Getting cozy with a book helps develop a love of reading, it connects reading with a sense of pleasure. Having benches with padding, as well as extra storage, provides our class with a special place to read.
