I work with a group of students with special needs. They have varying disabilities, including Autism, ADHD, and Specific Learning Disabilities. Many of my children come from disadvantaged families. On top of trying their best at school, my students often times go home to a grandparent caring for them, trying to understand the reason why their parent is in jail, or what they will have for supper. The school I work at strongly believes in the philosophy that it takes a village to raise a child. All the staff at my school work together to provide students with rigorous academic instruction and consistent behavioral expectations through the use of the state of Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) framework. With PBIS, we are able to carefully track and analyze behavioral data for our students. The project I am working on will only enhance our Tier II interventions for our students.
