Each year, I take my students on a journey around the world. I incorporate trips, music, food, and literature into celebrations. In addition to the standard school celebrations such as Chinese New Year and St. Patrick's Day, I make a point of covering all the ethnic groups in my classroom. In order to enhance my students' learning, I have selected materials and supplies for the various centers in our classroom. Through literature, students will learn about various cultures and their traditions, food, music, and celebrations. They will be able to imagine and create scenarios with the use of ethnic costumes in the dramatic play area. Multicultural puppets can be used by students to retell stories in the literacy center, while ethnic homes and people can be used in the block area to create towns, cities, or neighborhoods.
