Our school is a school with students who want to learn and experience new and exciting adventures. We want to give these students something to feel excited about and motivate each student to want to come to school. The students have daily obstacles to overcome just in their day-to-day life. Our school has almost 95% of students receiving free/reduced price lunch. We are located in inner-city Buffalo, the third poorest city in America. Many students have endured so much in their already early life, to have an opportunity like farming their own vegetables and raising live chickens could open their eyes to all the world offers outside their small, sometimes hectic, corner. We as teachers want our students to feel accomplished and successful. What could be more rewarding than seeing the hard work you put into a garden, and the beauty of tiny little chicks growing and flourishing in front of their little eyes?
