Reading these stories is important for the development of students literary canon. A canon that is true to who THEY are and where they come from. We will read these stories as a collective community that helps students make sense of this new literary world.
With the voices of Black authors, we will be able to give our students more choices for engagement, while educating them on authors who look like them. It is extremely important they have stories they can identify with.
We also want to be sure to have our students immersed in rich stories and lessons that give them a sense of pride and power!
