My students attend a high poverty school with the majority of them on free or reduced lunch. Luxuries, such as the Internet and computers, are not available to most at home. But that does not determine their capacity to learn, their thirst for knowledge, or their desire to succeed. They just need the tools to compete with their more affluent peers in a society that values achievement. We have access to a class set of computers one day a week for 30-40 minutes and the students use every second of that time to work on projects. They thrive on finding new things within programs, creating reports, and mastering skills. What could they achieve with more access to the equipment? Their parents would love to find out.
