This is my 20th year teaching special education students in a predominantly Spanish speaking neighborhood in Chicago. My special education students and their families are my passion. It's extremely rewarding for me to work with this specific population of students every day. I am inspired constantly by the gains of my students, however small they may be. At my school student achievements are rewarded, big or small. As a special education teacher I am in constant contact with parents, letting them know about our day, informing them what their child learned, discussing challenges they face, conducting meetings to discuss their child's disability, explaining their progress in the class and referring resources that are available to further assist them at home and in the community.
