The chair pockets will be a key component in our classroom. Students will keep white boards, goals, and book bags in their chair pockets. The pockets will help minimize transitional time and teach students organizational skills. Currently students keep their materials in their cubbies. We waste a lot of time back at the cubbies because they get congested and students stop to talk. If students have their materials readily available at their seats, they can easily and quickly get their materials for the lesson with minimal talking and down time.
We have an awesome reading program that is aligned with our writing program (Lucy Calkins). However, to be successful at the reading program, classroom teachers need leveled libraries. Students will use the leveled library books to read independently and to read in guided reading groups with me. My students love reading and I would love to give them books that they can actually decode and read.
