My kindergarteners come to school each day, overloaded with outside stressors that impact their lives and their ability to engage in learning. Our Title I school is made up of a diverse community of learners. 79% of the students at our school qualify for free/reduced meals. We are internationally diverse, and our families speak over 30 different languages. Many of our students are learning to speak English for the first time.
Every morning we begin our day with quiet time. This is a time to let go of those outside stressors and focus on our job as learners. We work on yoga and other mindfulness strategies to help us relieve external/internal pressures and regulate our emotions.
