This year, I am hoping to build a classroom community grounded in love, trust, and laughter. To make this vision a reality, I am asking for a large rug where my students can gather every morning for a community meeting. During this time, we will discuss goals for the day, participate in team-building activities, and reflect on shared successes and challenges.
This rug will also serve as a space where students can read stories and write their own.
It will be the center of our literacy instruction. While on the rug, we will dig into complex stories and discuss how they relate to our lives. We will create our own interesting characters and exciting narratives. This rug will allow my students to grow as readers and writers, and our community to strengthen through discussions and shared experiences.
