These are over 500 of the best students in kindergarten through 5th grade! I have worked at the school for over 8 years and know and love the students and their families. We live in an area where art is not a primary part of the culture. It's a small town, so there are not many visual art opportunities for the kids to experience. The students in this area need to build visual arts knowledge through art lessons given in the public schools. Even the Art classes themselves are funded by a grant. The closest art museum is probably 300 miles away and I'm not sure that there is even a modern art museum in the state. While the area is known for Native American and Mexican culture, the knowledge of actual elements of art is lacking. Students in this area generally do not have a strong knowledge of visual arts.
