Students in my classroom are eager to learn, and love to get their hands on informational texts. Our school is an inner city, magnet school with an extremely high poverty level. Many students come from homes where parents have limited educational background. Our school is currently in the process of becoming a premier literacy school through the hiring and intensive training of highly effective teachers, increased community support and involvement, and additional opportunities for student learning such as a Summer Reading Institute.
