I would love to start reading Wonder with my kids in September. This book will definitely set the tone for the rest of the school year. R.J. Palacio's book touches on themes such as bullying, family, friendship, leadership, acceptance, love, and what it means to be "different". I anticipate great discussions revolving around the main character, Auggie, as he starts school for the first time. My students will learn not to judge someone based on his or her appearance, that being different is okay, and that we should never use words to hurt others. The #1 message of the book that I anticipate my kids learning, is to always, always CHOOSE KIND!
My students' lives will be better after learning about Auggie who perseveres through life's challenges. He was an inspiration to me, to the characters he touched in the book, and I know he will be an inspiration to my students!
