I teach at a Title 1 High School, which means more than 75% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch based on their family's household income. My AP Literature students have not only overcome the circumstances of their environments, they are succeeding in becoming the best and brightest! They work hard every day to ensure their successes and should be shown that learning and working hard can be fun and rewarding to keep them motivated through their college years. My school's culture is suffering a bit, with violence and bullying seeming to be more important than learning and enriching their minds. These handful of students are the leaders in our school and are trying to actively change the ways their peers think about school and academic lives.
