After attending a professional development where I saw students drumming to keep their attention and hands busy, I thought it was a genius idea! Students who hold the drums are ones that have the most trouble paying attention. The students are required to drum when answers are spoken from other students, whether the answer is right or wrong the drummer has to pay attention to student responses--and drum in response to their answer. If they are not using it appropriately they no longer have drum privileges. The class can also chant together while students drum to repeat correct answers or chants that go along with the lesson. I wanted drums immediately for my students, I know they could benefit from it!
