I am entering my eighth year of teaching reading and language arts. I quickly learn how much my students actually like to read, even when some say they don't. It truly depends on WHAT they are reading. Some just haven't found the correct interest yet and I like to make that happen with Scholastic Storyworks, as it introduces them to a variety of genres that are sure to spark the interest of every student.
Scholastic Storyworks is one of the most used resources that help my students grow a love for reading while allowing them to dig deep into their thoughts. Each magazine comes once a month and provides students with a story or article for each of the genres we study in class. It also includes a variety of skills and resources for all levels of learners that are rigorous and engaging for every type of learner. I will use these weekly in my classroom during our genre studies to build our reading, writing, and vocabulary skills. These articles will help build our list of mentor texts and provide extra skills and resources to be used during small group learning, whole group practice, intervention, and tutorials.
