My students are like my own children. I love them and I have high expectations for them and expect them to have high expectations of themselves. This does not mean we don't make mistakes. I let them know right off the bat that making mistakes is all a part of the learning process. The fact that my school is in a low income area means that the more relevant I can make my lessons, the more apt my students are to break the cycle and become productive members of society. I want my students to leave my class loving math and having learned to their fullest potential.
