I teach kindergarten. Even at the age of 5-6, these kids LOVE learning about the solar system! It is such a difficult concept to teach because it's hard to comprehend the concept of "space" and the enormity of our solar system. My kindergarteners are like sponges, they soak up everything we read about the planets and ask so many wonderful questions. They enjoy reading/listening to books, doing space-related art projects, and playing astronauts in our dramatic play area during our Space Unit. Our school is very supportive of our Dads' Day Space Camp. We know the importance of getting parents actively involved in their child's education. When we invite parents to special days at school, this opens lines of communication with the teacher/principal by giving them an opportunity to come into our classroom to get to know us better. It also allows parents to meet the other parents in our classroom. They get to meet other staff in our building and have lunch together during the visit.
