Environment matters. Having two futons in my classroom/office space will help students, families, and educators FEEL comfortable in sharing their concerns, personal struggles, worries, fears, and celebrations with me during character ed. whole-class instruction time and individual or small group counseling sessions.
As a school counselor, the importance of creating a special space/cozy environment where students feel loved and comfortable is a priority for the work I do everyday.
Research shows that when schools fully integrate social-emotional academic learning into K-12 education, academic performance improves, students are more engaged in school, and—as a result—they are more likely to graduate high school and attend and graduate from college. The evidence also shows that students with healthy social and emotional development are more successful in the workforce and experience greater lifetime well-being. I strive to equip and prepare all 548 students with the social-emotional skills required to succeed in college, career, and life. It truly takes a village to support our students and our community. Supporting my project will give you the opportunity to become a strong ally with my school as we educate the whole-child and nurture the next generation of global leaders. Thank you for your time!
