As our school's neighborhood has been determined to have the highest lead levels in all of Queens, many of our students have memory retention and fine motor issues that make writing difficult and time consuming. Many of my students have wonderful, brilliant ideas they are able to verbalize, however when it comes time to write, their thoughts are not expressed as they would like.
My students deserve to have their ideas heard the way they want to express themselves. With the use of computers, students will be able to dictate their thoughts and develop typing skills that will help them throughout their educational careers.
Our school is in a very high need, low income area. Many students have little to no computer exposure outside of school. Due to a reduction in funding, our students will no longer have access to a computer lab or any technology throughout the day. In order for students to become competitive members of today's ever evolving technological society, I hope to provide as much exposure as I can to meet these needs. With your help, my students can find their voice and learn the necessary skills needed to meet the challenge their disabilities impose upon them.
