My students are inquisitive, energetic, have big hearts, and high aspirations. My first graders love learning -- from reading engaging stories to learning new ways to solve math problems and performing science experiments, they are truly invested in their education and have a passion for learning. They love our classroom library, where they are able to check books out and fill their book box with texts at their independent reading level. These young, fearless leaders are working hard towards becoming rapid readers, critical thinkers, and engaged citizens. My students are English language learners, and mostly come from homes where their first language is Spanish. The beautiful, historic school I work at is in the center of a community that embraces the rich, vibrant culture of their heritage.
