I teach 6th graders in a school with 100% free lunch. My students are amazing kids. Many of them come to my class at a wide array of reading levels with solid reading skills, but without the real love of reading. In order to make their futures as bright as possible, reading needs to be more than a chore. Reading needs to become exciting and pleasurable.
