My students are labeled as "under achieving" and "special needs." I never use these labels. They are simply kids, who need to be inspired and supported more in their learning. I teach 5th grade. My goal is to support every student to achieve the 5th grade standards. It just so happens that my students need more support. Most of the time, this looks like me building very strong relationships with my students. It is important that they know I care about them, as people first then as students. This is the least challenging part of my job, because I truly love all kids.
My school had 667 kids last school year. We are large for our area and serve a very large population of ESOL students. We are also a Title 1 school, meaning we receive extra funding from the federal government because of our poverty level.
My students love technology. This is why providing them with more technology in the form of tablets would appeal to their learning style and needs.
