Although my students live in a high poverty, high crime, low income neighborhood and are limited in the English language, they are eager to learn and can catch on quickly to new vocabulary learned through read alouds and nonfiction reading.
They arrive to school early and school is their safe haven. They love books and love reading independently and with their partners. They refer to the books during discussions to cite their evidence. These kindergarten students are eager to learn about the world and through books I have been able to bring a small slice of the world to them.
Please consider donating to our students in need. Kindergarten is the foundation of their academic career. It all begins in kindergarten.
Thank you!
