The reading materials requested for this project will enable my students to gain access to text via books, as well as age level appropriate magazines that focus on current social topics. Since I have students from many different ethnic backgrounds, I have chosen books that reflect the diversity in my classroom setting. I want the girls to have access to books, and media sources that are relevant to their lives and reflect their cultural values. This allows students of all cultural backgrounds to learn to be both understanding and empathetic towards those who are different, but not less, than them.
Reading comprehension is crucial to every child in every classroom; reading becomes even more essential for our students as they enter adulthood.
Students will have the opportunity to choose from a variety of reading materials in the classroom setting. It is my hope that by engaging them in reading books that are both interesting and relevant to them, they will become life long readers. I want the students in my classroom to be exposed to literature everyday, across their curriculum.
