My students are all below poverty level and are struggling learners with academic and/or behavior disorders. My students are very unmotivated and have completely shut down in the traditional setting. They have been identified as the lowest 25% and are projected to drop out by the 10th grade without severe interventions.
Students have minimum support at home and many are living with people other than their biological parents. Most come to school lacking proper nutrition, materials and supplies to be productive. Education is not valued and many of the students feel as if everything they learn in school is unrelated to their current or future life.
