The third unit we teach in Ninth Grade Literature is about American Social Movements. Students choose a movement that interests them and then they read, research, and teach the rest of the class about that movement. This year, we are trying to use culturally relevant fiction books to have students read and use the information to supplement their research.
Your support will provide high-interest, culturally relevant books to high-needs students. These books will teach students about their social movement and allow for a small group reading experience. Minority students need to see themselves as the heroes of the literature they read, and this project will help provide this reading experience for my students.
