Most of my students are of low socioeconomic status and crave the knowledge to become better citizens. My students attend an alternative public school that serves students in the entire county from grades K-12. Students are sent to our school who may need credit recovery, have high absenteeism in their traditional school, or may need that one-on-one in a smaller classroom setting. These kids are very special to me and have grown so much academically since school has started. As a school, we strive to engage the students to participate in the classroom setting; yet, allow the students to feel encouraged to become successful in the real-world. Sometimes my students think it is okay not to understand how to do math, but they are highly intelligent and curious to see how the content we cover in class is applied to the real world. I want my students to know they are productive members of society and help them enjoy math.
