My student population is one of the most diverse in the state of Oklahoma. As brand-new arrivals to the United States, my students work painstakingly to learn the English that is necessary for them to graduate high school. Because I am working at two schools this year (one in northeast OKC and the other in the northwest part of the city), I teach students from a wide variety of backgrounds.
Students' linguistic backgrounds vary as much as where they are from. Primarily, our students arrive from central America, southeast Asia, and central Africa. No two students are the same, and their native language(s) include a combination of:
Spanish, Mam, K'iche', Q'eqchi', Burmese, Zomi, Hakha, Vietnamese, Cantonese, Kinyarwanda, and more!
In addition to my regular teaching duties, I will be offering fine arts enrichment for all interested students through the Urban League of Greater Oklahoma City's PEAK program.
