I teach in an urban and extremely low socioeconomic district. I have been teaching for 23 years and still love what I do! The students make me laugh and cry some days! However, there is no place I'd rather be than in a classroom motivating my students!
I have a mixture of races within my classroom which is truly a joy. I have been taught Russian and Spanish by students within my class. The other students love learning from one another. I pride myself in creating a classroom environment where we are a family. We help one another so that we all have some type of success.
The school culture incorporates reading in the lives of all students. As stated before, we utilize Accelerated Reading which can also be done at home. We have quarterly contest to see who can earn the most points in accelerated reading. The students really get into the contest and push one another to be the best of the best!
