Teaching in a Title One school brings a lot of diversity into my classroom. I teach students from all different types of backgrounds. Many of my students come from broken homes and are not given a lot of outside support. I want to create a positive atmosphere for my students and provide them with the necessary tools needed for success within the four walls of my own classroom. Our school is over half free and/or reduced price lunch. Many of the families lack the proper resources needed to support their child's overall success.
My sweet first graders are eager to learn and ask each morning "when is it time to read?" I want to continue to spark their interest by exposing them to a variety of texts. Nonfiction texts that are available in our library and classroom are often much too hard for the emerging readers in my classroom.
