I teach humanities and mathematics to middle-school kids at our school. Our school is pretty different than the norm for PPS- it has a robust social and environmental justice curriculum; we get kids out in nature on field studies once a week, and our students are bright, young, critical thinkers and leaders who do amazing things like: testify before city council about proposed coal/propane terminals, create one of the first Queer-Straight-Alliance groups for middle-schoolers in the district, educate other students in the district about Pacific NW native animals by leading and teaching wildlife tours around the city, engage in tons of environmental restoration service learning projects, and all this and much more!
