I will be encountering my 8th year teaching at the same Title I school in Salem, Oregon. However, instead of teaching eager 4th graders, I am moving down to blooming 2nd graders! This no doubt will be a BIG change of pace for me in teaching and learning, but one thing remains the same...about 70% of my students will come from low income families. I can only imagine what it's like for these families living on limited resources and more often than not, books are not as accessible at home. In addition to low income families, about 50% of the student population come from families who do not speak English as their first language. All the more importance to have a variety of books easily accessible to them! That's why as I rebuild my classroom library for 2nd grade, I want books that will not only interest them, but books to grow their minds and inspire their hearts!
