At the beginning of the year, a student in my class brought a Bouncy Band to attach to his desk. I was quickly amazed in the way that the Bouncy Band provides a quiet and effective way for the student to move and wiggle in class while staying focused on the lesson. In the past I have tried other types of fidgeting tools to help students but they have always become more of a distraction and a toy that the students play with. Bouncy Bands become part of the desk, do not occupy the student's hands, and cannot easily be taken apart.
I don't sit still during meetings, so how can we expect 10 year olds to do so. My students come to school excited to learn and I strive to create an environment where each child feels comfortable and can excel. Providing a way for students to not feel trapped at their desk while maintaining focus will do just that.
