Our PreK students come to school with a variety of life experiences. Some have never been to the library. Some have never read a book with a parent or caregiver. When I visit during morning read time on the carpet, they BEG me to read them a book. They point to pictures of things they recognize and ask questions about those they don't. They line up with more books, fighting for the chance to be read to. During R.E.A.D. class, my students are glued to the interactive books and activities. Parents are encouraged to attend classes with younger siblings to model interactive book reading that encourages a shared love of reading.
