Where do I even begin with my little munchkins?! They are my world and I love them as if they were my own. Unfortunately for them, my students come from one of the most impoverished neighborhoods in the DMV (D.C., Maryland, Virginia). Over 98% of our students live well below the poverty line/ are FARM (Free And Reduced Meals) students. In turn, their parents/ guardians cannot afford to buy them clothes that fit them properly, let alone the latest in educational technology. Not only that, over 90% of our students are ELL (English Language Learners) students meaning that especially in first grade, many come in with absolutely no English proficiency. They thrive on visual cues and even more so on engaging activities. As a Title I school, we do receive Federal funding for such technologies, but in a county with such a high volume of Title I schools and in a school with well over 800 students, there is only so much funding for each classroom.
