One of my students' favorite books is Unbroken. But reading the adult text is more than challenging for my English language learners or students with special needs. If we have access to the young adult version, all students will have access to the unbelievable story of Louis Zamperini.
Louis Zamperini overcame the odds by surviving on a raft at sea, a Japanese internment camp, and not to mention running in the Olympics; his is an ideal role model for students needed to see that they, too can overcome anything they face. By being able to read Unbroken, students have the opportunity to experience Zamperini's story and make connections to their own hardships.
It is an action-packed book that engages all students and allows them to get excited about reading!
