I will be teaching 5th grade at Fuller School of Excellence this upcoming school year for approximately 50 to 64 students. In 2013, 81% of the student body DID NOT meet the state standards for the Illinois State Achievement Test in math and reading, compared to 41% for other schools in the state. Due to these results, and many of the lower scores in previous years, this school was deemed failing. Since then, much improvement has occurred, but all of our students are still not on grade level. At the same time, with the vision of rising to soar, embraced by a devoted administration and staff, we will push through barriers that once could not be surpassed.
My school is especially high need, 94.3% low income, with a 43% mobility rate. As a result, many of my students are lacking stability and can not afford the food they need to nourish their bodies, nor the supplies and classroom essentials that are needed to succeed
