Teaching has changed over the last several years and as teachers we are always looking to meet the needs of all different types of learners; this includes the layout and environment of our classroom. After experiencing kindergarten for the last 5 years, I am moving on to 2nd grade to share my passion and love for learning while setting high expectations for my students to succeed. My students are from an urban setting where 90% of the students receive free or reduced lunch. They are eager to learn and have obtainable goals to achieve in reading and writing. They work in small groups and with partners to share ideas. They are often engaging in accountable talk to increase their vocabulary and conversation skills. Elementary school is just not what it used to be and these kids are real troopers, working hard everyday to complete rigorous lessons and learn from each other.
