My students go to a Title I school, where 90% of the student body receives free and reduced lunch. In relation to the school, 90% of my cheerleaders receive free and reduced lunch and live below the poverty line. Despite their monetary challenges, they are a group of hardworking and supportive young ladies. They are passionate about cheerleading and creating a community of pride and unity. Over the past three months, this team has done amazing things. They hosted the school's first ever Mini Cheerleading Camp and volunteered as a team to give campus tours at freshman orientation. They adopted a team philanthropy, Cheer for a Cure, and began creating their own fundraisers for teammates who had problems affording their athletic fees. They are always looking for a way to help others and the last to ask for help themselves.
