I work diligently to help my students succeed in math and find a love of a subject many predetermine to dislike. My students can experience hands-on learning with manipulatives relating to our developing skills. They can explore, develop, and practice new skills quickly using dry erase boards, easily erasing as they improve their own understanding.
If my fourth graders can enjoy learning math and even find excitement as they learn, it will change their perspective and future. Engagement in learning through hands-on tools will provide the learning experience my students need to achieve. Math understanding is not reached through numbers alone, but through thinking and exploring using visuals, manipulatives, and words.
